About

The Othona Community is situated next to the River Blackwater in Essex Between the ancient St. Peter Chapel and Bradwell A, a decommissioned Nuclear Power station. Their programmed events at this community attract anything between 10 and 100 people, depending on the theme and the season. At any given time there will be some who have been coming for years and others here for the first time. Especially in the summer the dining room echoes to the sound of many languages and children’s voices. Othona has a special concern for living in harmony with nature – with wind turbine, solar panels, and eco-building and much else. The beauty of the natural world is all around – from a green woodpecker to an unpolluted starlit night sky.

The community event " The Essex Green Weekend " will run from the 23rd May until the 26th May. For more information on this weekend please see https://www.othonaessex.org.uk/events-listing

During this weekend the Artist Angenita Teekens will run 'Future Time' workshops. Walking the seawall around Sales Point in Essex, we will explore the geological timeline and history of The Blackwaters river and discuss a possible future timeline for this part of the coast.

Participants will be imagining the coast including, hopes and dreams, expectations, predicted facts, naming future era's, a new coastline, drawing new animal and plant species.

We will be using drawing, writing, sketching and mapping. A communal future timeline will evolve over the weekend.

Culminating in a pop up exhibition on Monday 26th.

Workshops will take place on Saturday and Sunday in the morning starting around 10.30 Participants can come for the whole weekend or the day. The workshops are free. If you come for the day, do book a homemade fresh lunch and /or dinner. Special dietary needs are catered for. please mention when booking.

Othona is in a remote part of Essex, the nearest train station is Southminster. A bus/ taxi can be taken to Bradwell-on-Sea.
