The Beach of Dreams Silks
Britannia Pier, Great Yarmouth
About
1998 and from the age of three, I would go to the pier with my mum and grandparents. When I was about five, I used to go on the pier to the amusements with my nan and grandad. We used to shoot tins with the air rifle and put 2ps and 1ps in the penny slot machines, get a spot of lunch from one of the beach cafes and chill on the beach with the bouncy castle on the sand. I would have donkey rides. I remember, one time, eating at MacDonald’s in town and I was sick all over the food and the table. As an adult my first impressions of Great Yarmouth coming back – it’s full of different East Europeans. I would like the shops to stop closing – to close some of the takeaways, for some investment in social activities and to stop the homelessness. House addicts. Today, Great Yarmouth means a fair bit to me. It’s given me sanctuary and a safe place to live during my recovery. So, I am very happy here where I live and to be in Great Yarmouth at Herring House Trust.
