Winter Gardens, Great Yarmouth

About

I have lived in the Great Yarmouth area close to 70 years and have seen many changes. I grew up not far from the Winter Gardens where I spent some enjoyable times as a teenager. Especially learning to skate, spending time with friends, meeting new friends and even making relationships. The skating rink was a meeting place for youngsters back in the 70s. As I got older and had my children I used to teach them to skate. When they got older and had their children the Winter Gardens had changed to being a children’s play area where my grandchildren had fun on the sides and the ball crawl. Sadly it closed up around about 2010 as it started being run down. But now with funds it is soon to be restored. In the next year or two it will be restored in its full glory. It will be somewhere the residents of Great Yarmouth can have pleasure again like I did back in the 1970s. It was also a dance hall going back a few years ago.

Climate Commitment

Thinking of changes we can all do more for the environment. I feel I am doing something towards the future going forward by being plant based. I have been vegan for a number of years and I make sure I don’t buy plastic containers. If I do happen to, I reuse them so as to cut down wastage and landfill as I am quite passionate about pollution building up and what we are leaving to the next generation and the generation after them. My thoughts are that one day we will have a warmer climate and maybe we shall be able to have more exotic plants and trees that will grow amongst our sea frontage. Also we might even possibly have different species of fish start to swim in our shores like dolphins and such. It would be lovely to think that if I had great grandchildren or the third generation would have great pleasure in seeing these different species in the future. And have a life of green meadows with animals on the farm and also living a longer life.
